Need to Get Away: The Ultimate Travel Guide for the Perfect Girls’ Weekend

You love your husband/boyfriend. And your kids/pets. You (hopefully) enjoy your job. But sometimes you just need to get away! And who better to share a weekend with than other awesome women who understand exactly why you need to put space between you and your co-workers, bills, commitments and family? Check out this ultimate travel guide for the end-all, be-all of girls’ weekends.

What to pack
There are two ways to go with this one. If you need to get away because you’re overworked and drained of energy, pack all of your favorite comfort clothes. Yes, you read that right. Pack every pair of yoga pants, every tank top and your favorite slippers for a relaxing weekend where the hardest decision you have to make is whether to have another glass of wine or not.
If you need to get away to be inspired or to have a little personal time where no one is calling you “Mom” or asking you what’s for dinner, pack your favorite little black dress and those kitten heels you haven’t worn in years. You’ll have plenty of time to curl your hair and put on lipstick if you don’t have to worry about dressing anyone but yourself.
Where to go
For that totally relaxing experience, we suggest booking a spa weekend. It might sound cliché, but seriously—have you ever been to a spa? They’re amazing. Pamper yourself with the full package. Start with a trip to the sauna, followed by a full-body massage, a facial, mani/pedis and maybe even a hair wash and style. Most spas provide you with a comfortable robe and slippers to roam about in, so you’ll be relaxed even while you’re in between sessions.
If you’re looking for excitement, try something a little more fast-paced like a trip to the Big Apple. Go window shopping on 5th Avenue, take touristy selfies with the Statue of Liberty and in Time Square and take in a show with the girls on Broadway. If that’s a little too fast-paced, consider something quieter like Napa Valley. Stay in a fabulous resort or a quiet inn and spend your weekend gossiping with the girls and sampling some of the famous Napa Valley wines.
Who to take
No matter if you’re shooting for the spa or the city, girls’ weekend is all about relaxation and rejuvenation. Don’t make the trip into an obligation by inviting people you think you have to. This trip is about you, so if your mom stresses you out or best friend from college brings out the worst in you, don’t invite them. Invite people who make you happy, keep you calm and have a no-tolerance policy for drama.
